Among this year's films currently vying for Oscar attention is Guillermo del Toro's much-acclaimed fantasy love story "The Shape Of Water." Whether Del Toro can pull off a Best Director or Best Film win remains to be seen. But certainly, his special effects and art department team deserves some recognition for what they were able to accomplish with the principal "fish man" character, which not only had to be practical but also hauntingly attractive.

"He's handsome in a fish-like way," so says performance actor Doug Jones in a fascinating new behind-the-scenes featurette. And Jones should know, he spent about two and a half hours every day just to get the makeup and suit on. "That's ridiculously fast for this much of a transformation," declares Jones.

The featurette also offers some insight into how Del Toro came up with the breathtaking design for his aquatic creature, which was heavily inspired by one of Del Toro's most favorite movie monsters, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon."

Starring Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, and Octavia Spencer, "The Shape Of Water" is now playing in select theaters.
