The funny thing about superheroes, you never really know who's behind the mask.

Check out an early peek at "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," a new animated action movie from Sony Pictures Animations (in association with Marvel), which is bringing the origin story of teen superhero Miles Morales to the big screen for the very first time.

Miles Morales is an Afro-Latino character that was created in 2011 and took over the main focus in the "Spider-Man" comic books, following the death of Peter Parker. As it were, the Miles character was vaguely mentioned in the live-action movie "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which led many fans to believe that Miles will eventually join the Marvel cinematic universe.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directors of "The Lego Movie" and the "Jump Street" comedies, are executive producing the forthcoming animated film, which will feature the voice of Shameik Moore (star of "Dope" and Netflix's "The Get Down") as Miles.

The teaser, which offers a quick sampling of Moore's voice, was released this weekend at the 2017 Brazil Comic-Con Experience.

Directed by animators Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians), "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" isn't due to hit theaters until next Christmas, December 2, 2018.
