You Were Never Really Here — Official Trailer

If your teenage daughter is suddenly abducted by sex traffickers -- well, you should call the police immediately. But if you want to "hurt" those evil sex traffickers, then you hire Joaquin Phoenix to do the job. Because he can be "brutal" -- like hammer-to-the-face brutal.

Check out the official U.S. trailer for "You Were Never Really Here," the latest thriller from acclaimed visionary filmmaker Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin), starring Phoenix as a professional vigilante who is hired by a New York senator to rescue his kidnapped daughter (played by newcomer Ekaterina Samsonov, "Wonderstruck") from sex traffickers, only to later find himself entangled in a deadly conspiracy.

The gritty vigilante thriller, which premiered back in May at this year's Cannes Film Festival where it won the Best Screenplay award and the Best Actor prize for Phoenix's searing performance as an emotionally tortured hero-for-hire, is based upon the novel by noted New York writer Jonathan Ames, who is also known as the creator and producer of the cult TV comedies "Bored to Death" and "Blunt Talk."

Adapted for the screen by Ramsay and co-starring Alessandro Nivola, John Doman, Alex Manette, and Judith Roberts, "You Were Never Really Here" will arrive in select theaters on April 6, via Amazon Studios.

A traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe's nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening.
