Netflix's Wormwood — Official Trailer

What if you were told your father had died in an accident, only to find out years later that he died because of a CIA atrocity?

In the upcoming 6-part Netflix documentary "Wormwood," Oscar-winning documentarian Errol Morris (The Fog of War, The Thin Blue Line) unravels the mystery surrounding the death of Frank Olson, a government scientist and bioweapon researcher who was surreptitiously given LSD by the C.I.A. nine days before he was found dead in 1953.

Frank had fallen from his hotel room window. And CIA investigators told his family he had committed suicide. In truth, Frank was operating in a secret Cold War program called MK-Ultra, which included experiments in drug-induced brainwashing and mind control -- and his death was a part of a disturbing CIA cover-up.

Featuring sit-down interviews with Frank's eldest son, Eric Olson, who's dedicated most of his life to uncovering the truth about his father's death, the Netflix docu-series combines archival footage and news clippings with cinematic-style re-enactments that feature dramatic performances by Peter Sarsgaard (as Frank Olson) and Tim Blake Nelson (as a shady CIA agent).

"Wormwood" is due to premiere next week on December 15th. And Netflix has just released a new official trailer, watch it above.

Directed by boundary-breaking filmmaker Errol Morris, Wormwood is a six-part series exploring the limits of knowledge about the past and the lengths we'll go in our search for the truth. A twisting, evolving story of one man's sixty-year quest to identify the circumstances of his father's mysterious death. Combining a virtuosic performance by Peter Sarsgaard with Morris' legendary interview style, Wormwood examines this case from every possible angle, bringing the viewer face-to-face with some of the United States' darkest secrets.
