A brand-new international trailer has been released for "12 Strong," the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced military-action thriller that tells the extraordinary true story of the first U.S. soldiers who were sent to fight the Taliban after the 9/11 attacks.
"Thor: Ragnarok" star Chris Hemsworth leads the ensemble cast, portraying one of the leading members of a 12-man team of Green Berets who are deployed to Afghanistan where they must team up with an unknown Afghan warlord (played by American Sniper's Navid Negahban) in a collaborative effort to overthrow the Taliban.
Academy Award-nominee Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals), Michael Pena (End of Watch, Ant-Man), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), and William Fichtner (Black Hawk Down) also star.
Based on the best-selling non-fiction book "Horse Soldiers" by Doug Stanton and directed by Danish photojournalist Nicolai Fuglsig, "12 Strong" is hitting theaters January 19th.
synopsis:
Set in the harrowing days following 9/11, a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum (Navid Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans -- accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare -- must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghani horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.
