Kristin Scott Thomas throws a celebratory dinner, only to have it ruined by a deceitful Timothy Spall in the new U.S. trailer for the pitch-black comedy "The Party."

Boasting an all-star cast that includes Patricia Clarkson, Cillian Murphy, Emily Mortimer, Cherry Jones, and Bruno Ganz, the film is a black-and-white satire about a cozy dinner party that goes horribly awry after a shocking announcement is made.

Scott Thomas plays a bureaucrat who has just been elected to serve as a high-level government official. To celebrate her new position, she decides to throw a small dinner party with some of her closest friends. The celebration, however, quickly turns into a contentious shouting match when her drunken husband (Spall) suddenly confesses to falling in love with another woman.

Acclaimed 68-year-old English filmmaker Sally Potter, whose credits include "Orlando," "The Man Who Cried," "Yes," and "Ginger & Rosa," writes and directs the film, which premiered to glowing reviews at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival.

"The Party" is due to open in U.S. theaters on February 16th.

Janet (Kristin Scott Thomas) has just been appointed to a key ministerial position in the shadow cabinet – the crowning achievement of her political career. She and her husband Bill (Timothy Spall) plan to celebrate this with a few close friends. As the guests arrive at their home in London the party takes an unexpected turn when Bill suddenly makes some explosive revelations that take everyone present by surprise. Love, friendships and political convictions are soon called into question in this hilarious comedy of tragic proportions.
