Acclaimed English character actor Toby Jones (The Hunger Games, Captain America) plays a damaged man suffering from severe mommy issues in the trailer for the Hitchcockian thriller "Kaleidoscope," which has been billed as a kind of modern-day "Psycho."

The film, which is written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Rupert Jones (who is also Toby's brother), takes a look at the psychological complexities of an emotionally abusive relationship between a middle-aged recluse and his dictatorial mother, played by veteran English actress Anne Reid (The Mother, TV's Coronation Street), in a performance that earned her a best acting award at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Co-starring Sinead Matthews (Fantastic Beasts), "Kaleidoscope" will arrive in U.S. theaters and VOD on December 8th.

This intense, twisty thriller unfolds in the darkest corners of a man’s mind. Recently released from prison, mild-mannered Carl (Toby Jones) quietly attempts to move on with his life. Just as he embarks on his first date in 15 years, Carl’s fresh start is shattered by the sudden reappearance of his domineering mother (Anne Reid), whose presence awakens within him a deep-seated trauma. What unfolds is a brain-warping puzzle as reality and illusion, past and present collide and explode in violence. The debut feature from Rupert Jones is a provocative psychological mystery that asks: is it possible to escape our past?
