Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons meets his identical "Counterpart" in the first trailer for the new sci-fi-tinged espionage thriller series, which is coming to the STARZ network in January.

Created by screenwriter Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) and directed and executive produced by acclaimed Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Passengers), "Counterpart" follows a lowly bureaucratic agent named Howard Silk (Simmons), who is let in on a mind-blowingly huge secret: The government has been quietly safeguarding a gateway to a parallel dimension. It seems everyone on Earth has an identical counterpart in this parallel world. And Howard is getting the chance to meet his -- which leads to all sorts of puzzling twist and turns, as well as a whole lot of questions.

The series also stars Olivia Williams (Rushmore) as Howard's wife; Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything) as Howard's co-worker/associate and Italian actress Sara Serraiocco as a mysterious assassin who has snuck into Howard's world.

Additionally, the cast also includes Nicholas Pinnock, Richard Schiff, Ulrich Thomsen, Nazanin Boniadi, Kenneth Choi, Sarah Bolger, and Stephen Rea.

"Counterpart: Season 1" will run for ten episodes, premiering Sunday, January 21st on STARZ.
