British actor Joe Cole plays a heroin-addicted boxer who, after being busted for drug possession, is sent to a terrifying Thailand prison in the trailer for "A Prayer Before Dawn."

Based on the real-life memoir by British addict-turned-kickboxer Billy Moore, the film appears to be both a Muay Thai kickboxing movie and a gritty prison drama, like a cross between the Oscar-winning 1978 film "Midnight Express" and a Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie with echoes of "The Raid 2" and "Only God Forgives."

Cole, who stars in the acclaimed British gangster series "Peaky Blinders" and co-starred in the neo-Nazi thriller "Green Room," portrays Billy, a British boxer training in Thailand. When Billy slips back into old drug habits, he is quickly arrested and ordered to serve a jail sentence at one of the most notorious prisons in the world: Nakhon Pathom Prison. While trying to survive the harsh treatment, Billy convinces some of his fellow inmates to train him to become a professional Muay Thai kickboxer.

Shot inside the actual Nakhon Pathom Prison in Thailand, "A Prayer Before Dawn" comes from French director Jean-Stephane Sauvaire, who previously helmed 2008's Cannes-winning African child-soldier thriller "Johnny Mad Dog."

The film is being distributed by A24 and will be hitting theaters sometime in 2018.
