The Long Road Home — Official Trailer

In what is sorely remembered as "Black Sunday," the real-life 48-hour military battle in Baghdad during the 2004 Iraq War forms the basis of a new eight-hour limited cable series for National Geographic (NatGeo), and the network has released a new official trailer.

Featuring an ensemble cast led by three-time Emmy-nominated "House of Cards" actor Michael Kelly, Kate Bosworth, Jason Ritter, Jeremy Sisto, Noel Fisher, and Sarah Wayne Callies, "The Long Road Home" is a dramatization of ABC News journalist Martha Raddatz's best-selling non-fiction book of the same name, which detailed a deadly military fight that ultimately claimed the lives of eight American soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division and wounded more than 65 others.

Examining the enormous toll war takes on soldiers and their families, the mini-series is executive produced and written by screenwriter Mikko Alanne (The 33) while directing duties have been divided up between Emmy-winning directors Phil Abraham (Mad Men) and Mikael Salomon (Band of Brothers).

"The Long Road Home" will begin with a special two-hour premiere on Tuesday, November 7th on the NatGeo network and will proceed to air its remaining six one-hour episodes on the following Tuesdays.

On April 4, 2004, the First Cavalry Division from Fort Hood was ferociously ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad-- a day that later came to be known as "Black Sunday." Based on Martha Raddatz's best-selling book, The Long Road Home chronicles their heroic fight for survival, as well as their families' agonizing wait on the home front back in Texas.
