"Bright" isn't your typical cop movie. Nor is it your typical fantasy film. Check out the latest trailer for the upcoming Netflix thriller that combines elements of "Training Day" with Tolkien lore.

Will Smith reteams with his "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer for this big-budget genre mashup set in an alternate modern-day Los Angeles, where "Lord of the Rings"-type Orcs, Elves, and Fairies have been integrated into American society, but yet are marginalized and largely treated as lower-class citizens.

Smith plays a police officer who is assigned a new partner, who happens to be the first ever 'Orc' cop (played by an unrecognizable Joel Edgerton, from "Loving"). While on patrol, the unlikely cop duo investigate a potential crime scene. But when they discover a very rare and very powerful magic wand (described as a "nuclear weapon that grants wishes"), they must do whatever is necessary to ensure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands -- which is easier said than done when the entire city suddenly becomes a war zone.

Also starring Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramirez, Lucy Fry, and Ike Barinholtz, "Bright," which was written by "Chronicle" scribe Max Landis, will premiere December 22nd only on Netflix.

synopsis:

Bright is genre-bending action movie that follows two cops from very different backgrounds.
