Check out the first trailer for "Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built," a new supernatural thriller that stars Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren as Sarah Winchester, a famous American widow, who married into the Winchester Rifle Company fortune and actually believed her 1880s Victorian-style mansion was plagued by the vengeful spirits of those killed by Winchester rifles.
The film, which also stars Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Sarah Snook (Steve Jobs, Predestination), is inspired by the real-life legend of the Winchester Mystery House, a sprawling 160-room estate located in San Jose, California, notoriously known as one of the most famous haunted houses in America.
As the legend goes, the widow Winchester took the advice of a spiritualist and used her inheritance to pay construction workers to work non-stop on the Winchester mansion, continuously building and rebuilding over several decades, because the widow believed it would keep the spirits at bay.
The movie is directed by filmmaking twin brothers Peter and Michael Spierig (aka The Spierig Brothers), who just directed the new "Saw" sequel "Jigsaw" but are perhaps best known for their cult films "Predestination" and "Daybreakers."
"Winchester" is hitting theaters on February 2, 2018.
