They say trains are the safest means of transportation. But if the new official trailer for the Liam Neeson-starring thriller "The Commuter" is any indication of the current public transit system, trains might just be a surefire way to make your life a living hell.

Part cat-and-mouse hunt, part Hitchcockian conspiracy thriller, "The Commuter" casts Neeson, who is once again working with Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Non-Stop, Run All Night), as an insurance salesman.

While riding the train to work, Neeson's character, Michael, gets tricked into a sketchy situation. After engaging in a casual conversation with a mysterious passenger (played by The Conjuring's Vera Farmiga), Michael is offered a chance to earn $75,000 dollars if he can locate a specific commuter on the train. He soon finds himself involved in a criminal conspiracy, possibly being set up as the fall guy.

Co-starring Elizabeth McGovern, Patrick Wilson, Jonathan Banks, and Sam Neill, "The Commuter" rides into theaters on January 12, 2018.

synopsis:
Michael is an insurance salesman who is on his daily commute home, when it quickly becomes anything but routine. After being contacted by a mysterious stranger, Michael is forced to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on his train before the last stop. As he works against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realizes a deadly plan is unfolding and is unwittingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy. One that carries life and death stakes for himself and his fellow passengers.
