Hollywood superstar Will Smith is making his Netflix debut in December with the fantasy-tinged cop thriller "Bright," starring opposite Aussie actor Joel Edgerton (Warrior, Loving) as two vastly different LAPD officers.

The streaming company has released a featurette for the big-budget action-fantasy movie, which takes place in an alternate modern-day Los Angeles where Orcs, Elves, Fairies and other mystical creatures have been integrated into the general human population.

Part "Lord of the Rings," part "Alien Nation," part James Ellroy crime novel, this genre mashup follows two L.A. beat cops -- one human (Smith) and one orc (Edgerton) -- who, despite their differences and prejudices, must work in unison after confiscating a rare and forbidden magic wand, which, if misused, could generate enough power to obliterate the entire city of Los Angeles.

Directed by "Suicide Squad" helmer David Ayer and written by "Chronicle" scribe Max Landis, "Bright" also stars Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramirez, Lucy Fry and Ike Barinholtz.

The Netflix film is set to premiere Friday, December 22nd. A new trailer is also scheduled for next week, so be on the lookout for that.
