120 years ago, police detectives had a very different system for catching serial killers. Although, investigators at the time were perfecting a new method of combining forensic science with human psychology. And it was a method that would change the playbook forever.

In TNT's forthcoming small-screen adaptation of Caleb Carr's best-selling suspense thriller novel "The Alienist," Dakota Fanning (American Pastoral), Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast), and Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War) star as three unlikely sleuths who band together to track down an elusive serial killer in 1896, New York City.

Fanning plays a brilliant police department secretary while Bruhl is a gifted criminal psychologist and Evans as a newspaper crime reporter and illustrator. When a number of underage male prostitutes are suddenly found murdered in a gruesome manner, the trio utilizes a groundbreaking scientific method of criminal profiling as they work in secret to catch the killer.

Executive produced by acclaimed filmmaker Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation, HBO's True Detective: Season 1), "The Alienist" co-stars Brian Geraghty, Ted Levine, Douglas Smith, and Q'orianka Kilcher.

TV director Jakob Verbruggen (House of Cards, Black Mirror) helms the hour-long pilot of the eight-episode series, which is set to premiere Monday, January 22nd on TNT.
