Two upper-class teenagers (Split's Anya Taylor-Joy and Bates Motel's Olivia Cooke) pay a local drug dealer (the late, Anton Yelchin, in his final film role) to carry out a murder in the new red band teaser trailer for "Thoroughbreds."

Described as a "black comedy" with elements of "Heavenly Creatures," the Connecticut-set film follows childhood friends Lily and Amanda as they reunite and form a bond over their shared distaste for Lily's strict stepfather (Boardwalk Empire's Paul Sparks). But when Lily and Amanda come up with a twisted plan to hire a not-so-experienced hitman, things take a dark and unpredictable turn.

"Thoroughbreds" is the feature film debut of writer-director Cory Finley, who originally conceived the story as a stage play.

The film, which premiered to strong reviews at Sundance this year, will be arriving in select theaters on March 9, 2018.

synopsis:
Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily's contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another's most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.
