It has to be a challenging job to play the Goddess of Death, especially when the character is the first female villain to ever appear in a Marvel film.

But according to a new featurette for the upcoming superhero sequel "Thor: Ragnarok," Cate Blanchett couldn't have been more thrilled to tap into her dark side for the role of Hela, who is Thor's biggest antagonist in the film.

"I had incredible fun playing her," says the Oscar-winner. "I think the best villains are always those that you kind of love and hate what they do. But you sort of understand it."

Directed by acclaimed New Zealand comedian/filmmaker Taika Waititi, the movie follows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as he is banished from his home of Asgard, which has been taken over by Hela and her evil henchmen. Stripped of his mighty hammer, Thor is captured and sent to fight in gladiator-like matches in a distant part of the universe. He soon reunites with Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and teams up with fellow warrior Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and his evil half-brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) who was also banished from Asgard. Thor leads a small rebellion against Hela who wants to destroy the universe just to recreate it in her image.

"Thor: Ragnarok" co-stars Karl Urban and Jeff Goldblum and is set to hit theaters on November 3rd.

Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor's quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
