The Killing of a Sacred Deer — New Trailer

Colin Farrell forms a relationship with a strange teenage boy with "issues ... serious, psychological issues" in the new trailer for the creepy Kubrickian thriller "The Killing of a Sacred Deer."

Here, Farrell, playing a doctor and a family man, reunites with acclaimed Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, who is better known for his dark sardonic comedies "The Lobster" and "Dogtooth." Though this time, it seems the director has refrained from humor and instead cranked up the creep-o-meter to full blast.

Nicole Kidman, who recently co-starred this past summer with Farrell in Sofia Coppola's Civil War thriller "The Beguiled" -- and has just won an Emmy for her work on the HBO series "Big Little Lies," plays Farrell's wife, who is also the mother of two adolescent kids that are suddenly stricken by an unexplained illness. Which is a medical phenomenon that was ominously forewarned by the strange teenage boy (played by Dunkirk's Barry Keoghan), who appears to be the harbinger of death -- or, to a lesser degree, the harbinger of bad news.

Co-starring Alicia Silverstone, Raffey Cassidy, Sunny Suljic, and Bill Camp, "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" will be released in select theaters on October 20th.

Dr. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon presiding over a spotless household with his ophthalmologist wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) and their two exemplary children, 12-year-old Bob (Sunny Suljian) and 14-year-old Kim (Raffey Cassidy). Lurking at the margins of his idyllic suburban existence is Martin (Barry Keoghan), a fatherless teen who Steven has covertly taken under his wing. As Martin begins insinuating himself into the family’s life in ever-more unsettling displays, the full scope of his intent becomes menacingly clear when he confronts Steven with a long-forgotten transgression that will shatter the Murphy family's domestic bliss.

Lanthimos has crafted a sensational thriller brimming with unsettling humor and creeping dread, steeped in Greek tragedy, existential horror, Hitchcockian psychodrama, and riveting suspense. Darting confidently between genres to subvert our expectations at every turn, The Killing of a Sacred Deer firmly cements Lanthimos in the pantheon of world-class auteurs and marks him as a cinematic provocateur without precedent.
