In a mere matter of days, fans will finally have the chance to check out the first "Star Trek" series in over a decade. But ahead of its Sunday premiere, CBS has unveiled this behind-the-scenes preview for "Star Trek: Discovery," which offers an enticing glimpse of the show's epic production.

Starring The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, the show is taking place ten years before the events of the original "Star Trek" series, and will take the unique approach by concentrating on the story arc of the ship's first officer, rather than the captain's.

The cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as USS Shenzhou Captain Philippa Georgiou and Jason Isaacs as USS Discovery Captain Gabriel Lorca.

Ship officers will be played by Anthony Rapp, Maulik Pancholy, Mary Wiseman, Shazad Latif with Hellboy's Doug Jones as the alien Science Officer Saru. Meanwhile, Gotham's James Frain appears in the series as Vulcan astrophysicist Sarek, better known as Spock's father -- and who is apparently also the adoptive father of Martin-Green's character.

TV directors David Semel and Adam Kane helm the first two installments of the 15-episode series, which is set to premiere this Sunday in a special two-hour event on CBS.

Quickly following the broadcast, the network will release the rest of the "Discovery" series on their subscription-based on-demand service app, called 'CBS All Access.'
