Veteran stand-up comedian Gilbert Gottfried is known for his unfiltered brand of humor, which sometimes can be crude, loud, and vulgar. But the real person behind those outrageous jokes is a man you'd barely recognize.

In the upcoming documentary "Gilbert," filmmaker Neil Berkeley (of "Harmontown" and "Beauty Is Embarrassing") takes an up-close look at the private life of comedian Gilbert Gottfried, who may have developed an unbridled on-stage persona as a way to conceal his real character as a soft-spoken frugal New Yorker who never thought he would ever get married, let alone have two beautiful children.

Hailed as one of the breakout documentaries to come out of this year's Tribeca Film Festival, "Gilbert" is slated for a theatrical release on November 3rd. Watch the newly-released trailer, above (courtesy of EW.com).

synopsis:
Gilbert Gottfried found fame in the 1980s, when he became widely known for his off-beat comedy and brash personality. He has since reinvented himself as a family man, a transition explored in this documentary, which also explores the hilarity and poignance of his life.
