With every great innovation comes the challenges of big business. And everyone knows business is filled with "vultures."

When Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb, he inadvertently ignited a business war with industrialist George Westinghouse. Their rivalry is the subject of the new historical drama "The Current War," in which Benedict Cumberbatch portrays Edison and Michael Shannon as Westinghouse.

The film, for which a trailer has been released, is the dramatization of Edison and Westinghouse's highly competitive battle to implement America's first ever electricity system.

The cast also includes Spider-Man's Tom Holland, Alien: Covenant's Katherine Waterston, Matthew Macfadyen, and Tuppence Middleton with Nicholas Hoult as science genius Nikola Tesla.

Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (American Horror Story, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and written by playwright Michael Mitnick (Sex Lives of Our Parents), "The Current War" will open in select theaters on November 24 and will expand to wide release in January.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison and Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse, THE CURRENT WAR is the epic story of the cutthroat competition between the greatest inventors of the industrial age over whose electrical system would power the new century. Backed by J.P. Morgan, Edison dazzles the world by lighting Manhattan. But Westinghouse, aided by Nikola Tesla, has seen fatal flaws in Edison's direct current design. Igniting a war of currents, Westinghouse and Tesla bet everything on risky and dangerous alternating current.
