Guillermo del Toro's new fantasy movie "The Shape of Water" just premiered at the Venice Film Festival -- and the reviews are pretty spectacular.

While riding that wave of good buzz, Fox Searchlight has released this early sneak peek clip from the film, which isn't scheduled to open in theaters until the end of the year.

In the clip, we see British actress Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine) as Elisa, a lonely custodian who works at a top-secret government facility. The scene begins as maintenance workers push a large bulky container inside a scientific laboratory. That's where Elisa gets her first look at "The Asset" (portrayed by Del Toro's go-to creature performer Doug Jones).

Chronicling the unlikely romance between Hawkins' mute character and Jones' humanoid sea creature, "The Shape of Water" also stars Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, and Michael Stuhlbarg. The film is slated for a December 8th release.

From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER -- an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.
