Legendary cult Japanese director Takashi Miike is back with his 100th film. And like most of his works, it's dripping with blood.

Check out the newly released red band trailer for "Blade of the Immortal," Miike's live-action adaptation of Hiroaki Samura's popular manga series about a lethal samurai who can be cut but not killed by sword slashes.

The action movie stars Japanese pop singer/television actor Takuya Kimura as the immortal Samurai Manji, while 19-year-old Japanese actress Hana Sugisaki plays Rin Asano, a young orphan girl who enlists the Samurai's help to annihilate the evil swordsmen responsible for her parents' deaths.

Though perhaps best known for his uber-violent horror movies (Audition, Ichi the Killer, Visitor Q), Miike has generated the best reviews of his career for his recent samurai films: 2011's "13 Assassins" and 2012's "Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai."

"Blade of the Immortal" premiered to solid reviews at this year's Cannes Film Festival, which seems to indicate that Miike is at his absolute best whenever the action takes place in feudal Japan.

The film will open in U.S. theaters on November 3rd.

synopsis:
Manji, a highly skilled samurai, becomes cursed with immortality after a legendary battle. Haunted by the brutal murder of his sister, Manji knows that only fighting evil will regain his soul. He promises to help a young girl named Rin avenge her parents, who were killed by a group of master swordsmen led by ruthless warrior Anotsu. The mission will change Manji in ways he could never imagine...
