"Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington vows to "blow the King and all his men to hell" in the first teaser trailer for "Gunpowder," the forthcoming British miniseries about the early 17th-century assassination attempt against King James I -- historically known as "The Gunpowder Plot of 1605."

Harington portrays Robert Catesby, a 30-year-old Catholic Englishman from Warwickshire, who led the small rebellion against the King and masterminded the assassination plot, which ultimately ended up as a failed attempt to blow up the entire Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder.

The event is remembered in Britain on every November 5th as "Guy Fawkes Day," an annual fireworks-filled holiday named after Guy Fawkes, one of Catesby's co-conspirators, who was put in charge of guarding the gunpowder but was subsequently arrested and severely tortured by police officials days before the plot could be carried out.

In the three-part television drama, Guy Fawkes is played by "Downton Abbey" actor Tom Cullen. While the rest of the cast includes Peter Mullan (Top of the Lake), Edward Holcroft (Kingsman), Shaun Dooley (Broadchurch), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), and Liv Tyler (The Leftovers).

Directed by British filmmaker J. Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed, The 5th Wave) and written by Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies), "Gunpowder" will premiere later in the year on BBC ONE.
