Here's the first trailer for the new faith-based film "I Can Only Imagine," which tells the true-life story of Christian rock singer-song writer Bart Millard (from the Christian band "MercyMe") and how he wrote what eventually became the highest-grossing song in Christian music history.

Broadway star J. Michael Finley portrays singer Bart Millard while Dennis Quaid plays Bart's abusive father, who was the main inspiration for his top-charting redemption song "I Can Only Imagine."

The film, which co-stars Trace Adkins, Madeline Carroll, and Cloris Leachman, comes from Christian filmmakers Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin (aka the Erwin Brothers), who previously directed the comedy "Moms' Night Out" and the football drama "Woodlawn."

"I Can Only Imagine" will be released in theaters in the spring of 2018, near Easter.

synopsis:
It's the song that brings ultimate hope to so many. And next Easter, in theaters everywhere, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE will encourage people in a whole new way. The inspiring, incredible, and unknown true story behind MercyMe’s beloved song is the basis for this brand-new movie from the Erwin Brothers (directors of October Baby, Moms' Night Out, and Woodlawn).
