Featuring one of the most iconic serial killers in the horror genre, "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" became an instant cult classic when it first opened in 1974. Since then, the Tobe Hooper-directed slasher spawned a number of sequels, including a 2003 remake and a 2013 reboot.

But soon, horror fans will get the chance to see the first ever prequel to the 1974 original, which will be shedding some light on the origins of Leatherface and his crazy-ass family of cannibals.

Starring Lili Taylor (The Conjuring) as Leatherface's demented mother and Stephen Dorff (Blade) as a corrupt local sheriff, the upcoming horror movie takes place before the events of the original movie as it explores Leatherface's formative years -- from his farm boy days wearing decapitated cow heads to his teenage years living in a mental asylum.

Written by relative newcomer Seth M. Sherwood, "Leatherface" is helmed by the directing duo of Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, whose credits include the French horror thrillers "Inside (A l'interieur)" and "Among the Living (Aux yeux des vivants)."

"Leatherface" is set to be released exclusively on DirecTV starting Thursday, September 21st and will arrive in theaters and VOD on October 20th. In the meantime, watch the newly released green band trailer, above.

The quartet kidnaps a young nurse (played by Vanessa Grasse) and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman (Stephen Dorff) out for revenge. The Conjuring‘s Lili Taylor is Verna Sawyer.
