Billed as "the world's first fully oil painted feature film," "Loving Vincent" is a visually stunning animated biopic of 19th-century Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, exploring his troubled life and tragic suicidal death.

Mirroring Van Gogh's painting style, achieved by a complicated rotoscoping process (similar to Richard Linklater's groundbreaking films "Waking Life" and "A Scanner Darkly") and a wild combination of live-action scenes with digital visual effects and large-scale oil paintings, the movie took seven years for Polish painter/writer/director Dorota Kobiela to complete.

Co-directed and co-written by Hugh Welchman, "Loving Vincent" features an impressive cast that includes the likes of Douglas Booth (Noah), Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids), Saoirse Ronan (Atonement), Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders), and Aidan Turner (The Hobbit films) with Polish theatre actor Robert Gulaczyk as Vincent Van Gogh.

"Loving Vincent" will open in U.S. theaters on September 22nd. Watch the trailer, above.
