"Jeff is a little off, ya know?" Well, that may very well be the understatement of the year.

Check out the creepy first trailer for "My Friend Dahmer," an upcoming indie drama based on the graphic novel of the same name by cartoonist John "Derf" Backderf, which explores the high school years of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Disney star/pop singer Ross Lynch (from the teen sitcom "Austin & Ally") portrays Jeffrey Dahmer as an eerily awkward teenager who is struggling with the pressures of fitting into high school, as well as coping with the issues of being raised in a dysfunctional home.

Alex Wolff (brother of Nat and star of the upcoming "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle") plays a young Derf Backderf, who in real-life went to high school with Dahmer in Ohio and knew him as a shy, introverted classmate.

Set in the mid-1970s before Dahmer had committed the murders, the film also stars Mad Men's Vincent Kartheiser as Dahmer's family doctor and Walking Dead's Dallas Roberts and Anne Heche as Dahmer's father and mother.

Directed and adapted for the screen by writer-director Marc Meyers (How He Fell in Love), "My Friend Dahmer" premiered to solid reviews back in April at the Tribeca Film Festival. The movie will be released later in the fall.

synopsis:
Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in the Midwest United States between 1978 and 1991 before being captured and incarcerated. He would become one of America's most infamous serial killers. This is the story before that story.

Jeff Dahmer (Disney Channel's Ross Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. He collects roadkill, fixates on a neighborhood jogger (Vincent Kartheiser), and copes with his unstable mother (Anne Heche) and well-intentioned father (Dallas Roberts). He begins to act out at school, and his goofball antics win over a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Alex Wolff). But this camaraderie can't mask his growing depravity. Approaching graduation, Jeff spirals further out of control, inching ever closer to madness.
