If the television series "Gotham" can take place in a time before the existence of Batman -- then, why not a show about the period before the existence of Superman?

Check out the newly-released Comic-Con teaser trailer for "Krypton," Syfy's new epic series exploring the history of Superman's alien home planet -- you know, before it blew up into smithereens.

In fact, the upcoming TV drama will take place two generations before Krypton's destruction and will focus on Superman's (Kal-El's) grandfather, revolving around the royal family, known as "the House of El."

Screenwriter/TV producer/filmmaker David S. Goyer (Da Vinci's Demons, Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Blade) and Sleepy Hollow's Damian Kindler developed the Syfy series, which stars British actor Cameron Cuffe (Florence Foster Jenkins) as Seg-El, a young Kryptonian prince who is destined to be Jor-El's father, which in turn would eventually make him Kal-El's grandpapa.

"Krypton" is set to premiere sometime in 2018 on the Syfy network.

synopsis:
Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel's home planet, Krypton follows Superman's grandfather (Cameron Cuffe) -- whose House of El was ostracized and shamed -- as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
