A boy hunter finds himself on a path to becoming a fierce warrior in the first trailer for "Alpha," a prehistoric epic that takes place 20,000 years in the past.

Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, who played the young Nightcrawler in "X-Men: Apocalypse," the upcoming movie is a first feature solo effort by director Albert Hughes, who is best known for co-directing the films "Menace II Society" and "The Book of Eli" with his twin brother, Allen.

(BTW, Allen just directed the acclaimed 4-part HBO documentary series "The Defiant Ones" about the partnership between Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre.)

"Alpha" follows a tribal boy (Smit-McPhee) as he goes on his first hunt. But when his clan is besieged by wild buffalos, the boy is injured and thought to be dead. Now left behind to fend for himself, the boy embarks on an epic adventure to reunite with his people. Along the way, he befriends a wild wolf.

The film, which also stars Johannes Haukur Johannesson (HBO's Game of Thrones), Leonor Varela (Blade II), Mercedes de la Zerda (Hemlock Grove), and Natassia Malthe (Elektra), is due to hit theaters on March 2, 2018.
