Throughout his illustrious career, Gary Oldman has only received one Academy Award nomination. But from the looks of his new movie, this may very well be the role that wins him his first Oscar statuette.

Watch an unrecognizable Gary Oldman as he literally transforms himself (with the help of some dazzling prosthetic makeup) to portray celebrated British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the debut trailer for the British historical thriller "Darkest Hour."

Directed by "Atonement" helmer Joe Wright, the film is set in the first weeks of Churchill's time as Prime Minister during the early and dire days of World War II.

The cast also includes Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI; The English Patient's Kristin Scott Thomas as Churchill's wife Clementine, and Baby Driver's Lily James as Churchill's personal secretary Elizabeth Nel.

Written by "The Theory of Everything" scribe Anthony McCarten, "Darkest Hour" will be released in U.S. theaters on November 22nd.

synopsis:
A thrilling and inspiring true story begins on the eve of World War II as, within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill (Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman) must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation.

As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.
