Netflix has released the official trailer for the critically acclaimed investigative documentary "Icarus," which takes an in-depth look at the secret operation behind the Russian sports doping scandal and its reprehensible cover-up.

Documentary filmmaker Bryan Fogel (Jewtopia) serves as principal reporter and human test study, subjecting himself to a rigorous illegal doping program. But just as the Russian doping scandal is about to break, Fogel finds himself conducting a series of cloak-and-dagger-like interviews with Russian scientist and whistleblower Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov.

Throughout the documentary, Rodchenkov reveals shocking details about the illegal performance-enhancing programs in Russia that were intricately designed for the country's top athletes, which included the Russian Olympic team.

"Icarus" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival where it won the first ever "Orwell Award," which is a newly invented festival trophy made to recognize films that fall under the umbrella of the "post-truth" political era.

"Icarus" is set to debut on Netflix beginning Friday, August 4th.

synopsis:
When documentarian Bryan Fogel sets out to uncover the truth about doping in sports, a chance meeting with a Russian scientist transforms his story from a personal experiment into a geopolitical thriller involving dirty urine, unexplained death and Olympic Gold-exposing the biggest scandal in sports history.
