Enter the secret world of Emojis!

Yup, it seems those Emoji symbols used for texting are coming to life in a new animated comedy for Sony. And the latest trailer promises a grand adventure, in which viewers are given a fun, behind-the-curtain peek at the inner workings of a smartphone.

"The Emoji Movie" features the voices of comedians T.J. Miller, James Corden, and Anna Faris as a trio of Emoji characters: Gene, Hi-5, and Jailbreak, respectively.

When Gene, the would-be "Meh" Emoji, discovers he has the rare ability to show more than one expression (which is a big No-No in the world of Textopolis), he enlists the help of his friend, Hi-5, and a spunky hacker, Jailbreak, to find the source code on their owner's phone. But while searching through phone apps upon phone apps, Gene cannot help but wonder if he was meant to have more than one emotion. Should he just accept who he is -- and what he can do?

Directed and co-written by animator Tony Leondis (Igor), "The Emoji Movie" also features the voices of Maya Rudolph and Steven Wright with Patrick Stewart as the Poop Emoji. It opens July 28th.

synopsis:
The Emoji Movie unlocks the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone. Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone's user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression – except for Gene (T.J. Miller), an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 (James Corden) and the notorious code breaker emoji Jailbreak (Anna Faris). Together, they embark on an epic “app-venture” through the apps on the phone, each its own wild and fun world, to find the Code that will fix Gene. But when a greater danger threatens the phone, the fate of all emojis depends on these three unlikely friends who must save their world before it’s deleted forever.
