The technological process of turning actor Andy Serkis into a highly expressive, photo-real chimpanzee is a complicated one. But it's also a very fascinating undertaking.

So, if you're the kind of moviegoer -- like us -- who can't get enough of watching those "how did they do that" videos, then you may want to check out this new behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming sci-fi action thriller "War for the Planet of the Apes."

The clip, highlighting the motion-capture performances in the movie, gives some insight into the making of Serkis's Caesar and his simian family, which was done in part by the visual effects wizards at Weta.

The preview tries to explain Weta's process, but let's face it, watching Serkis in his stop-motion suit never gets old, or less awe-inspiring.

"It's such a brilliant technology," says Serkis in the above clip. "And I've embraced it, and I actively want to push the boundaries."

"War for the Planet of the Apes" opens July 14th.
