HBO has released the first teaser trailer for "The Deuce," a new original series, starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, from David Simon, creator of the critically acclaimed series "The Wire" and "Treme."

The forthcoming series, which is co-created by crime novelist George Pelecanos, will explore the rise of the sex and porn industry in 1970s New York City.

Franco is taking on dual roles as mob-connected twin brothers Vincent and Frankie who operate a sleazy dive bar in Time Square. While Gyllenhaal plays "Candy," a hardscrabble prostitute who is lured into New York's burgeoning adult film business.

The cast also includes Michael Rispoli, Emily Meade, Zoe Kazan, Gary Carr, Margarita Levieva, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Chris Bauer, David Krumholtz, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Chris Coy, and Ralph Macchio.

"Breaking Bad" director Michelle MacLaren helms the first episode of the eight-episode HBO series, which is slated for a September 10th premiere.

The Deuce follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York's Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world at the pioneering moments of what would become the billion-dollar American sex industry.
