Salma Hayek and John Lithgow engage in a battle of wits and words in the new trailer for the sharply observed social dramedy "Beatriz at Dinner."

Centering around an increasingly awkward evening dinner party, Hayek plays the eponymous role of Beatriz, a hard-working Mexican immigrant who has carved out a successful career as an in-demand holistic masseuse for wealthy Southern Californians.

When asked to stay for dinner by one of her clients (Connie Britton), Beatriz reluctantly accepts the impromptu invitation. And as the night unfolds, Beatriz finds herself engaging in honest yet heated topical discussions with some of the snobbiest jerks in town, including the immensely smug, real-estate billionaire Doug Strutt (played by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actor John Lithgow).

Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass, Chloe Sevigny, David Warshofsky, and John Early co-star.

"Beatriz at Dinner" is directed by Puerto Rican filmmaker Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt, Cedar Rapids) and written by screenwriter/comic actor Mike White (School of Rock). This is their fourth collaboration together, following the cult indie comedy "Chuck & Buck," the Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal dramedy "The Good Girl" and the HBO series "Enlightened."

The film will open in New York and Los Angeles on June 9th before expanding to more cities on June 16th.

synopsis:
Beatriz (Salma Hayek), an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico, has drawn on her innate kindness to build a career as a spiritual health practitioner in Los Angeles. Doug Strutt (John Lithgow) is a cutthroat, self-satisfied billionaire real estate developer. When these two opposites meet at a dinner party, their worlds collide and neither will ever be the same.
