The EPIX network has released the first trailer for their new ten-episode comedy series inspired by Elmore Leonard's best-selling crime novel "Get Shorty," which had already been turned into the hit 1995 comedy with John Travolta and Gene Hackman.

In this re-envisioned TV adaptation of the 1990 book, Irish comic actor Chris O'Dowd plays a low-level hitman from Nevada named Miles Daly while Emmy-winning comedian Ray Romano is a washed-up Hollywood producer named Rick. (Miles and Rick are the small-screen equivalents to Travolta's Chili Palmer and Hackman's Harry Zimm).

While increasingly feeling exacerbated by his career in crime, Miles travels to Los Angeles with his partner, Louis (Sean Bridgers, from "Deadwood" and "Room") to assassinate a gambling-addicted film producer for a Nevada mob boss (played by character actress Lidia Porto, from "Idiocracy" and "Dope"). After stumbling on a blood-stained screenplay, Miles decides to stay in Los Angeles to try his hand in Hollywood. He soon sets up an unlikely partnership with Rick (Romano), a failing B-movie producer who doesn't mind if the financing of his next film project comes only in a large brown paper bag filled with fives and tens.

Co-starring Megan Stevenson, Goya Robles, Lucy Walters, and Carolyn Dodd, the EPIX series hails from TV producer/writer Davey Holmes (Showtime's Shameless), with episodes being directed by Allen Coulter (The Sopranos) and Adam Arkin (Billions).

"Get Shorty" will be premiering Sunday, August 13th on the EPIX network.
