CBS has unveiled the debut trailer for the highly anticipated "Star Trek: Discovery," which is the first original "Star Trek" series since 2005's "Star Trek: Enterprise."

Sonequa Martin-Green, the former star of "The Walking Dead," is leading the cast, which also includes Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, and James Frain.

Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp, and Rainn Wilson will also appear in the sci-fi drama, which is said to be taking place roughly ten years before the original "Star Trek" series.

Created by Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller (who back in October stepped down from his role as showrunner), "Star Trek: Discovery" is told from the perspective of the ship's newly elected First Officer Michael Burnham (played by Martin-Green).

Yeoh plays the ship's Captain Philippa Georgiou, while Jones is Science Officer Saru, who is also an alien being that can "sense the coming of death." Meanwhile, Frain is playing Vulcan astrophysicist Sarek, who's also the father of Spock.

"Star Trek: Discovery" has been developed as a "CBS All Access" original series. It will have a special two-part premiere on CBS sometime in the Fall, before moving exclusively to the network's new subscription-based on-demand service.

synopsis:
Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns 50 years after it first premiered, with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The series will premiere on the CBS Television Network with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All Access.
