This month will see the long-awaited return of David Lynch and Mark Frost's cult mystery series "Twin Peaks." And Showtime has recently released a new teaser trailer, featuring some new footage of the much-anticipated revival, including a quick look at the final on-screen performance of Miguel Ferrer (as FBI agent Albert Rosenfield), who sadly passed away from throat cancer back in January.

The new season, in which Lynch has assembled much of the original cast (you can see some of those old familiar faces -- as well as new ones -- in the above trailer), is picking up 25 years after the events of the original series and the 1992 feature film. As of yet, the plot details have remained under wraps. Though it's safe to say, the new 18-episode season will offer fans a bit more than your standard reunion special.

"Twin Peaks" returns on Sunday, May 21st on Showtime.

synopsis:
Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, Twin Peaks followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered. The town's sheriff welcomed the help of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura's killer, the town's secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues...
