Anne Hathaway puts up her dukes in a new "Colossal" trailer that reveals one of the surprise characters in the movie: a giant freakin' robot!

The dark comedy, written and directed by cult Spanish genre filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Extraterrestrial), is a satirical send-up of the classic "Godzilla" films, typically known as part of the "Kaiju" genre.

Here, Hathaway plays an unemployed party girl who, after being forced to return to her hometown, discovers she is somehow psychically linked to a gigantic reptilian-like monster that had suddenly materialized in Seoul, South Korea while she was passed out drunk during one of her many benders. Now realizing she has full control of the monster, she sets out on a metaphorical journey to self-worth.

The film, which also stars Jason Sudeikis, Tim Blake Nelson, Austin Stowell, and Dan Stevens, is currently playing in select theaters across the U.S. and will be expanding to even more cities this Friday.

synopsis:
Gloria (Anne Hathaway) is a hard partying New York scene girl who is thrust into crisis when her boyfriend, Tim (Dan Stevens), grows sick of her antics and kicks her out of their apartment. With no other options, she moves back to her hometown and quickly regresses, drinking every night until last call and accepting a job at a bar owned by her childhood friend Oscar (Jason Sudeikis). One day she wakes up and blurrily finds out that Seoul was terrorized by a giant creature the night before. Eventually, Gloria begins to suspect her own drunken actions are bizarrely connected to the monster rampaging in South Korea.
