STARZ's American Gods: Season 1 — Featurette: 'A Storm Is Brewing'

added: Thu, Apr 20th '17

Lately, the buzz has been pretty strong for STARZ's new fantasy series "American Gods." And if you're the kind of person who likes to hear what the critics have to say, then early reviews seem to indicate that this show is destined to be the breakout hit of the summer.

It might also be the show with the most insane visuals, judging by this newly released featurette that delves into its fantastical premise, which involves a secret war between old Gods and new ones.

Hailing from executive producers Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, NBC's Hannibal) and Michael Green (Heroes, Logan), the cable drama is based on the award-winning and best-selling novel by revered comic book writer-slash-fantasy author Neil Gaiman.

Ricky Whittle (from CW's "100") plays Shadow Moon, an ex-con who, while grieving his girlfriend's death, reluctantly becomes a traveling bodyguard to a mysterious businessman, named Mr. Wednesday (played by Deadwood's Ian McShane). Soon, Shadow learns that Mr. Wednesday is on a secret mission -- to recruit as many "Old Gods" for an impending battle against "New Gods."

Featuring an impressive supporting cast that includes the likes of Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, Emily Browning, and Kristin Chenoweth, "American Gods" is set to air on Sunday, April 30th only on STARZ.

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday's bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It's a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.
