A young 19th-century bride seeks revenge on her vicious, abusive husband in the new international trailer for the intense gothic period drama "Lady Macbeth."

In what appears to be a star-making performance, English newcomer Florence Pugh plays Katherine, a young nubile woman who is sold into marriage to a sadistic businessman (played by British character actor Paul Hilton, from "London Road" and 2011's "Wuthering Heights"). In between his despicable taunts and acts of cruelty, Katherine is told to "remain indoors with her prayerbook." But while her husband's away on business, a restless Katherine becomes increasingly defiant. She even goes so far as to engage in a secret love affair with one of her husband's house servants (played by indie rocker/actor Cosmo Jarvis). And the plot really thickens when she uses that relationship to manipulate her new secret lover to do her dirty work.

Based on the 1865 Russian novel "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District" by Nikolai Leskov, the film marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed British theater director William Oldroyd. Christopher Fairbank and Naomi Ackie co-star.

Drawing positive reviews at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, "Lady Macbeth" is gearing up for a theatrical release, hitting UK cinemas in April before opening in New York and Los Angeles on July 14th.
