A new "Outlander" trailer has hit the web, offering the first peek at its upcoming third season.
The hit science-fiction/fantasy-tinged romance series, based on the best-selling time-travel books by Diana Gabaldon, tells the heartrending love story between a time-traveling 1940s nurse named Claire Randall (played by Irish actress Caitriona Balfe) and a hunky 18th-century Scottish warrior named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
Season Two of the STARZ drama ended things with a real nail-biter: Before a major (and historically doomed) battle, Jamie sent Claire back to her own time to reunite with her 1940s husband (played by Game of Thrones' Tobias Menzies). The new third season seems to be fixed on showing how Jamie and Claire get back together -- that is, if they can somehow reunite against the odds.
Executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), "Outlander: Season 3" is set to premiere later in the year, sometime in September.
Adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books, "Outlander" follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where she meets Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior -- a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire's heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
