Before he gets recruited by Batman to join the "Justice League," Jason Momoa will first wander through an apocalyptic wasteland with a one-armed pistol-toting drifter (played by British model/actress Suki Waterhouse) in the grungy grindhouse thriller "The Bad Batch."
The desert-set movie, for which a new full-length trailer has been released online, is the latest offering from cult genre filmmaker Ana Lily Amirpour, of "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night."
Momoa plays a sunglass-sporting and meat cleaver-wielding outlaw who comes to the aid of a heavily mutilated young woman (Waterhouse) who has just escaped from a fortified compound where a charismatic cult leader (played by a mustachioed Keanu Reeves) is presiding over a harem of brainwashed girls. However, they are not the only weird-ass characters in this dystopian world as it filled with rejects, misfits, criminals, and cannibals.
Co-starring Giovanni Ribisi with a small appearance by an unrecognizable Jim Carrey as a desert hermit, "The Bad Batch" is coming to theaters on June 23rd.
The Bad Batch is a neo-dystopian picaresque set in a wasteland outside Texas that the US has officially disavowed. Immigrants, drug dealers, and other criminals have been excommunicated to the lawless zone, including Arlen (Suki Waterhouse) and a swath of depraved cannibals. After a chance encounter with fellow-pariah Miami Man (Jason Momoa), the societal rejects' fates intertwine in unexpected ways.
