Marvel Studios has unveiled the very first trailer for the much-anticipated superhero threequel "Thor: Ragnarok," which sees the mighty God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) going up against a new formidable foe, the merciless goddess of death "Hela" (played by Cate Blanchett).
Directed by New Zealand-born comedian/filmmaker Taika Waititi, of "What We Do in the Shadows" and "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" fame, the upcoming comic book movie finds Thor leaving New York City to return to his celestial home realm of Asgard, only to find his kingdom being overthrown by Hela.
Thor is then imprisoned, stripped of his hammer, and thrown into a discarded part of the universe where he's forced to battle other former warriors, competing in a gladiatorial arena. It's there that Thor gets to reunite with an old, green "friend from work."
In addition to Hemsworth and Blanchett, the film also features Westworld's Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster. Meanwhile, Tom Hiddleston returns as Loki with appearances by Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, and, of course, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is slated to open everywhere on November 3rd.
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor's quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
