Check out the trailer for the forthcoming transgender-themed film "3 Generations," starring Elle Fanning, Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon, Linda Emond, and Tate Donovan.

Fanning plays a New York transgender teen named Ray, who, while transitioning from female to male, receives overwhelming support from the three prominent women in his life -- his mother (Watts), his grandmother (Sarandon), and his grandmother's lesbian partner (Emond). However, on the flip side, Ray receives zero support from his estranged biological father (Tate Donovan) -- which wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't for the fact that Ray needs his father's consent for additional treatment.

Co-written and directed by London-born filmmaker Gaby Dellal (On a Clear Day), "3 Generations" (formerly titled "About Ray") was originally set to be released in September 2015 but has since been delayed by The Weinstein Company.

The film is now slated for a May 5th theatrical release. The Weinsteins are currently challenging MPAA's recent decision to slap the movie with an R-rating. The studio is hoping to get a PG-13 by the time of the release.

synopsis:
3 GENERATIONS tells the stirring and touching story of three generations of a family living under one roof in New York as they deal with the life-changing transformation by one that ultimately affects them all. Ray (Elle Fanning) is a teenager who has struggled with the body assigned to him at birth and is determined to start transitioning. His single mother, Maggie (Naomi Watts), must track down Ray’s biological father (Tate Donovan) to get his legal consent to allow Ray's transition. Dolly (Susan Sarandon), Ray's lesbian grandmother is having a hard time accepting that she now has a grandson. They must each confront their own identities and learn to embrace change and their strength as a family in order to ultimately find acceptance and understanding.
