Filmmaker Spike Lee is once again collaborating with actor/theater performer Roger Guenveur Smith (Do the Right Thing, Birth of a Nation) on a new feature project -- this time, it's for Netflix.
Lee steps behind the camera for this feature version of Smith's poetically and politically charged one-man stage show about the life of Rodney King, who in 1991 became the center of a nationwide debate over excessive police force against minorities when a videotape showed a group of LA police officers had brutally beaten him. The event triggered a storm of protest and eventually led to the 1992 L.A. Riots.
Netflix is planning to release "Rodney King" on Friday, April 28th -- a day before the 25th anniversary of the riots.
His story shook the world and lit LA on fire. Now it comes to life in a powerful one-man show.
