The Spike network continues its biographical documentary series with "I Am Heath Ledger," a 90-minute portrait that takes a poignant look at the life and career of the late, Australian-born actor Heath Ledger, arguably best known for his portrayal of the Joker in Christopher Nolan's Batman movie "The Dark Knight," for which he posthumously won the Best Supporting Oscar.

Also, nominated for his performance in Ang Lee's groundbreaking cowboy drama " Brokeback Mountain," Ledger died of an accidental overdose in January 2008, six months before the release of "The Dark Knight." Ledger was only 28 years old when he passed, yet had already established himself as one of the most accomplished actors of his generation.

Featuring archival footage and interviews with family, friends, and colleagues, "I Am Heath Ledger" will premiere later this month at the Tribeca Film Festival. It will also be released in select theaters on May 3rd, before airing on the Spike channel on Wednesday, May 17th.

synopsis:
Told through excerpts of his greatest performances, interviews with friends and family (including Ben Mendelsohn, Naomi Watts, Ang Lee, and Ben Harper), and the lens of his own camera, I Am Heath Ledger is an intimate celebration of the actor, artist, and icon. An artist of exceptional depth and courage, Ledger was equally talented behind the camera. This stirring documentary paints a rich portrait of one of the great artists of his generation.
