French-Algerian dancer-turned-film actress Sofia Boutella, from "Star Trek Beyond" and "Kingsman: The Secret Service," is bringing both her strong feminine mystique and her nimble physicality to one of Universal's most iconic movie monsters: The Mummy. And a brand-new trailer has been released today, offering a better look at Boutella's menacing Mummy character.

And though Boutella stars in the title role in this big-budget summer tentpole, Tom Cruise is very much the main star as he plays the main hero, Nick Morton, a mysterious adventurer who is tasked with stopping a 5,000-year-old Egyptian princess named Ahmanet (Boutella) from taking over the world. It's a modern-day world where gods and monsters exist. And this movie is being set up as the first chapter in a planned cinematic universe featuring classic Universal monsters (which includes The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, etc.).

Directed by TV's "Fringe" and "Sleepy Hollow" co-creator and producer-screenwriter Alex Kurtzman, the upcoming film also stars Annabelle Wallis, Courtney B. Vance, and Jake Johnson with a special appearance by Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll.

"The Mummy" will open in theaters worldwide on June 9th.

synopsis:
Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella, of "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and "Star Trek Beyond") whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
