Brad Pitt thinks he can win the war in Afghanistan in the new full-length trailer for the military satire "War Machine," which is a Netflix original film that also stars Tilda Swinton, Lakeith Stanfield, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, and Ben Kingsley.

Based on the best-selling nonfiction book "The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan" by the late, Rolling Stone journalist Michael Hastings, "War Machine" centers on a presumptuous four-star Army General (played by Pitt) who's been appointed to manage the war efforts in the Middle East. Dead set on building Afghanistan into a free and prosperous nation, Pitt's Gen. McMahon runs into a major obstacle when he discovers the White House is planning for a full US troop withdrawal.

"You're not here to win. You're here to clean up the mess," a government official says in the above trailer to Pitt's character, which is loosely based on the real-life four-star Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who was forced to resign his leadership position after a 2010 Rolling Stone article published his disparaging remarks about Vice President Joe Biden.

Adapted for the screen and directed by acclaimed Australian filmmaker David Michod (The Rover, Animal Kingdom), the pitch-black war comedy co-stars Alan Ruck, RJ Cyler, Will Poulter, Emory Cohen, Meg Tilly, Griffin Dunne, and John Magaro.

"War Machine" is due to premiere on Netflix on May 26th.

synopsis:
A pitch-black war story for our times, writer-director David Michod (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody -- raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an absurdist look at a born leader's ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story's core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on one of the most polarizing war figures of a generation: successful, charismatic four-star General Stanley McChrystal, who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist's no-holds-barred expose.
